Personal Statement
At the start of this year I made a life-changing decision to move to Australia in order to improve my swimming performance and gain the relevant experience and skills to help me realize my dream of becoming a US collegiate swimmer. Since arriving in Australia, I qualified for the National Open Short Course Championships and made the Age Final in the 100m freestyle. I have also been selected onto the South Australian Youth Swim Team development squad (Flippers). I am currently loving the experience of swimming in Australia, especially being part of a highly dedicated swim culture.
My Background
As both Malaysian and Australian, I have grown up as a global citizen, living in 5 different countries (UK, Malaysia, Singapore, Vietnam, Australia) and attending both International and local schools along the way. This experience has given me a great appreciation of the diversity in the world and has helped me become adaptable and resilient. Throughout the many moves I have experienced, I am always driven to continue my passion for swimming.
My love of sport got me involved in swimming
I’ve always loved sport and spent my younger years playing and representing my schools in a wide variety of sports (Swimming, Triathlon, Soccer, Touch Football, Track, Cross Country and Volleyball) which has contributed to my athleticism. I received the Junior and Middle School Sportswoman of the Year Award at my school in Malaysia and the Senior School Sportswoman of the Year Award at my school in Singapore. When I was six years old I discovered swimming through the sport of triathlon. The more time I spent training and competing in the pool, the more my love for swimming grew and at the age of fourteen, I chose to focus all my energy on the sport.
Academics
Academics have also been a high priority of mine. I am a straight A student and work hard to excel in my studies. I received 9A*/As in my IGCSEs. This year I am studying the Australian curriculum at Immanuel College and received the English Award and an Academic Achievement Award for my year level. I would love to maintain these high standards at university whilst studying an exercise science or pre-physical therapy course.
It is my dream to attend a college where I will be pushed to my limits in both the classroom and the pool.
