Personal Statement
At the age of 4, my parents enrolled me in swimming lessons to keep me physically active. I always enjoyed swimming but never imagined it to become my passion through the invaluable life lessons it taught me.
During my first regional competition, I broke the club record for the 9-year-old girl's category in the 50m butterfly. After winning a gold medal, I gained great confidence which deepened my passion for swimming. Every competition since then has been a steppingstone to incrementally reduce my time and qualify for state and national levels.
Many hours of consistent year-round training with no days off only to shave off one-hundredth of a second is a true measure of the diligence required to compete in swimming. When I was 12, I finally made it to the national-level competition and qualified to compete in the JOC Junior Summer Olympic Cup (Japan) in the 4 x 100m freestyle relay. Although we did not win any medals, I was thrilled to compete with other national-level swimmers. I qualified for the national championships for three consecutive years after that and continue to balance my passion for swimming with my academic studies.
Throughout the years I dedicated to swimming, I learned to be a competitive and hard-working individual not only in sports but also school. I realize that persistent efforts are essential for success. With my outstanding level of discipline, concentration, and organization, I constantly seek to apply these skills in my academic endeavors.
I’m motivated to continue swimming and pursue a science and health related program at a university in the United States. If granted admission, I have no doubt my full commitment to my future studies will lead me to success.
