Personal Statement
I have been swimming since I was three years old. Since I first started competing, I have aspired to swim in the United States. Leaving your country to swim at collegiate level is a once in a lifetime opportunity that could change my life.
I have an ease to float and to keep my body above the water, I am very flexible and I am very coachable too. But, I can say that my main strength is my head. I am very competitive and mentally strong. I encourage my teammates to create a healthy competitive environment by always having a smile on my face and cheering everyone on.
I had an experience that changed my life and my perspective on swimming completely. I was diagnosed with a disease called reactive arthritis, which prevented me from moving easily for several months. This experience helped me learn to be grateful for the pain that one can feel during training, to be grateful that I have the opportunity to move and that I can do the sport that I love. After this experience I promised myself never to complain in training again and to give my 110% every time I get into the pool. For this very reason, I strive to be one of the hardest working swimmers and one of the hardest working recruits you will find.
I started competing in club and state competitions with a team called ANV San Jeronimo. From 2017 to 2021 I competed for Mexico State in the Mexican National Championships. In 2022 I started training and competing for a Team called Club España in club and state competitions too. The same year I started competing for Morelos State in the Mexican National Championships.
In the classroom I study hard and maintain a high GPA, my grades have been and always will be very important for me. In college I want to major in engineering. I have always been good and really liked math and physics, but the main reason I would like to major in this area is to be part of the STEM women community.
For me it’s really important to be part of other communities besides academics and sports. For 7 years I was part of a group that volunteers to help people in need, such as low-income people, children without parents, and elderly people in nursing homes. I also have been working on a small company called Libertá, created and managed by teenagers, which helps teenagers in Mexico preserve and take care of their mental health.
I want to find a college where I can push myself in the classroom and in the swimming pool, but also to become a better person and help others. I am open to all options and want to find the right college match for me. I hope to become someone who inspires others and make me proud.
