Personal Statement
Hi!
My name is Tom Dean, I'm 16 years old from the United Kingdom, and would love nothing more than to be given the opportunity to attend university in the United States.
I've been swimming competitively for 8 years and in this time have competed at the highest level within the United Kingdom and will represent my region at upcoming international competitions. I have medalled several times at British Nationals and as of writing this (05/12/16), I am the ranked number one fastest swimmer in Britain in all short course individual medley events in my age. I am attending British Championships this April; fingers crossed! I have already been targeted by British swimming as a 'Pathway Potential' swimmer having attended the national male camp this year and intend on qualifying for European Juniors in the next two seasons.
I hope to continue improving and would love to get to the highest level possible in the sport that I enjoy so much.
Swimming is a real passion for me, and i enjoy it immensely. The desire to train and improve is what gets me out of bed on those cold winters mornings at 5am!
The chance to experience college swimming is the USA is something I have always aspired to, especially after hearing of the stories my sister has told me of her experiences. It is so different to the system of swimming in Britain : The training is more carefully planned; the physiology more meticulously managed; the sponsorship behind the sport is so much greater. All of these make college swimming extremely attractive.
On top of my swimming I am dedicated to my academic future. In my GCSEs I achieved 9 A*s and 2 A's in 11 subjects ; as well as taking two of my A-level math modules a year early. Furthermore I am currently studying Math, Further Math, Physics and Chemistry at A-level at Sir William Borlase's Grammar School and am predicted A* A* A; making me a strong candidate for Oxbridge selection.
I really hope you take my profile into consideration and would love to hear from you.
Many thanks, Tom
