Personal Statement
I love swimming. I love being in the water, whether it's at the beach, in the pool, having fun or competing - I just love being in the water.
I have competed in the water since primary school - in swimming competitions and in lifesaving - and have managed to fit my training and competition schedules around my studies despite the frequent scheduling clashes. As I have got older both studies and competitions have become more serious and successfully managing the scheduling conflicts has become much harder!
Which brings me to the US collegiate athletic system. As a student athlete in Australia, I will likely have to compromise either my swimming or my studies if I wish to continue to do both in the local university system. But the US system offers the opportunity to be funded to study in an environment where I can train, improve and compete in the water and complete my studies without the compromise.
When I also consider the opportunity afforded to experience a different lifestyle and culture, and to broaden my life skills, studying in the US on an athletic scholarship becomes a very attractive option - one which I now intend to pursue wholeheartedly.
I believe I bring a great mix of competition experience (multiple State and National level competitions in swimming and International experience in life saving), commitment to my studies and the team, and a determined attitude which will contribute positively to the team I join. I can't wait to get started!
