Personal Statement
Hi, my name is Sienna. I am a 16-year-old, 3.5 GPA high school senior and prefect at Saint John’s College in the Bahamas. Where I am a competitive swimmer for the club, Alpha Aquatics. And a triathlete who represents the Bahamas internationally. I have been swimming since the third grade with my old swim club Dolphin Swim Club, where I won the 11-12 runners-up high point trophy before moving to my current club and swim family.
Swimming has always been a passion of mine from a young age and has been a significant part of my life, which I hope to continue into the collegiate level. This sport has affected my life’s decisions and has shaped my personality into who I am today. I’m a naturally shy and closed-off person but because of the experience that swimming has allowed me, I was able to travel to many countries to compete, for example, Cuba, Guyana, and Barbados, I am a more open and sociable person.
Before Covid-19, I was always at the top of my age group but always missing the times, to break national records and make national teams. I would always feel like I was never doing enough, even if I tried my hardest. When Covid happened, everything had taken a turn for the worst in my life, with the inability to practice due to financial and familial issues. I was unable to train until the end of the seasons for 2021 and 2022 and had fallen from the top but I was still making the greatest memories of my life.
As a highly competitive and ambitious person in academics and athletics, this was one of the most difficult times of my life and with the opportunity to start next season normally and practice fully since covid. I am willing to work harder than ever to be the best in my events. I am going to speak it into the atmosphere that I’m going to leave my mark in the pool and want to carry this mindset further after high school, I would hope to achieve this by being a part of a team that can help me further my career in swimming and where I can help them in advancing their status as an institute for training well-rounded athletes, to soon leave my mark on the world with hard work, I will achieve these goals.
