Personal Statement
My name is Rayven Ward, a committed swimmer who is presently enrolled in the eleventh grade at 15 years old. My journey in the swimming world has been nothing short of a life altering experience. From my first dip in the pool at the ripe age of 3, to making national teams, my passion for swimming has been unwavering.
For as long as I can remember the pool has been my second home. I have spent a large amount of time perfecting my swimming abilities and challenging myself in the water. My passion for this sport compels me to constantly establish and accomplish fresh objectives, both on my own and alongside teammates. Throughout my journey, I have learned the significance of collaboration, self-control, and inner drive, qualities that have positively affected various aspects of my life. Whether it’s breaking a personal record or being a supportive teammate, I am committed to pushing myself and those around me to be the best we can be.
In 2021, I faced a major setback in my swimming career. After undergoing spine surgery which required me to take a break from swimming for 6 months, I was still able to find success in swimming. It was a very difficult and humbling period in my life which allowed mental and emotional growth, as I learnt patience and the importance of adaptation. This experience has only fueled my determination to come back stronger and more dedicated than I was before.
My academic journey has been parallel to my swimming career. I have maintained an accumulative GPA of 3.55, demonstrating my commitment to excelling in the classroom. Juggling the requirements of a challenging academic program with the extensive training necessary for competitive swimming has bestowed upon me and improved important skills in time management.
I am not only a swimmer with a 3.55 GPA, but I am a summer swim coach for kids. On top of that, I enjoy playing the guitar and watching movies with my friends. I am also interested in computer science as it is my ambition to major in this field. Technology is developing quickly in the world, and I want to contribute to the innovation that will influence our future.
I want to attend a college where I am pushed academically and athletically. I believe that the values and skills I have developed through swimming, combined with my academic commitment make me a great teammate to have and a wonderful athlete to coach. I am ready to take on the challenges of being a student athlete, maintaining a strong academic record while excelling in the pool.
