Personal Statement
Qualifying to swim South Africa's National Aquatics Championships at age 13 was a dream come true for me. However, the following year, when Nationals didn't go the way I had planned and worked so hard for, taught me about the kind of person I was, and wanted to be. The disappointment helped me grow as an athlete, and taught me to focus and re-evaluate what I needed to change.
I have been fortunate to have an amazing coach who taught me that I need to look at "the bigger picture"; teaching me valuable life skills along the way. Our club has won provincial championships for a number of years in succession. I learned the importance of dedication, sacrifice and teamwork in a year when things were not going well in the pool. I'm looking for a program that will be good for me academically and in the pool. I believe that I have the strength of character, work ethic and personality to compete on a college swim team and make an impact.
