Personal Statement

My name is ANDREA CUDIN.

I am a 19-year old South African swimmer.

I graduated from Collegiate Girls’ High School in December 2020 with entrance to a Bachelor’s Degree and was awarded my National Senior Certificate (NSC).

I wish to apply for a swimming scholarship as part of your Fall 2021 intake.

It has been a dream of mine to study at an American University.  This would be such an incredible opportunity to be educated in the USA and to do what I love - swim.  I hope to be exposed to opportunities in swimming, where I can reach my full potential.  I love being part of a team where I am able to contribute to the team as well as experience the camaraderie and spirit of working towards common goals.

I look forward to embarking on a new adventure where I can grow as a person and as an athlete.

I currently train with PEA Swim Club under Head Coach, Mark Edge.  I have been swimming competitively since I was 9 years old as well as participating in a number of other sports during my school career, namely water polo, netball and athletics. Up until the age of 14 years I was able to manage playing and competing in all of these school sports, while still giving swimming the priority and performing at a high level.  At 15 years, I chose to do only swimming and water polo and gave water polo the priority as I loved the team aspect of the sport.  Those two years taught me a lot about being part of a team.  At age 17, I made the decision to focus on competing in swimming and follow my dream of studying in the USA.

I look forward to furthering my passion for swimming and experiencing a whole new world!

  • Notes: 14 May 2020 Andrea Cudin is a member of my Senior Elite swimming squad and trains under myself as Head Coach. Andrea is an exceptionally diligent swimmer with a positive and friendly manner towards her peers and the coaching staff. She has proven to be a great mentor for the younger swimmers. Andrea has contributed greatly to the success of our club over the past season. She competed nationally at the Grand Prix Invitational Champs held in Stellenbosch as well as the South African Short Course Championship held in Durban. Andrea was due to compete at the SA National Aquatic Championship (Olympic Trials) in April this year which was, unfortunately, cancelled due to the global pandemic. Andrea is reliable and committed and I have high hopes for her in swimming in the future. MARK EDGE Head Coach

  • Swimming sessions are Monday and Wednesday mornings for 1 hour, every evening for an hour and a half (6pm-7:30pm) and a Saturday morning session for an hour and a half (8am-9:30am). I also attend Yoga three times a week and I do a personal exercise program from a sports scientist from Nelson Mandela University.
