Personal Statement
Swimming has been with me for as long as I can remember. Since I joined a club at the age of 8 I fell in love with the sport. Every time I dived into the water I was pushing myself from the toughest sets through to the much needed drill sessions. That motivation and dedication is still with me today. At the moment I am at Ipswich School (previously at Plymouth College & Culford School) here in the UK. I also pride myself at being the top academic performer in my year, holding an academic scholarship, as well as an ABRSM Grade 8 clarinetist. I consider clarinet playing as important as my education and swimming and play in both the school and public orchestra.
For me, swimming is a sport that I have not only loved but hated as well. But I have picked myself up through the challenges and made it to numerous National competitions. I love the burn during those anaerobic sets and rigorous gym sessions. But at the end of the day I love seeing and feeling the result of all my hard work at meets.
My best event is the 100m breaststroke followed by the 200m IM, 50m breaststroke and 200m breaststroke. I am also keen to improve my backstroke and get my 100m time as close to the 1 minute mark as possible.
Part of my long-term goal for swimming is to swim at college in America. It is my aspiration to train in the top swimming nation with the very best coaches so I can really fulfil my potential.
But it is not all swimming. Studying is something I really enjoy; I love learning new things. My grades show me to be an A/A* student with mostly A*s. I hope to study medicine or neuroscience after taking Biology, Chemistry, Maths and Psychology at A-Level here in the UK. Throughout my time at school I have balanced my swimming, academics and music successfully.
