Personal Statement
Gday my name
is Matilda Smith and I'm a 16 year old Year 12 High School Student in Maitland
, NSW Australia.
I have been swimming competitively since I was six years of age and have swam with the same coach and club during that period. Like most swimmers I have enjoyed the amazing opportunities swimming has provided me including lifelong friendships, a strong work ethic and the opportunity to travel to the most amazing towns and cities throughout Australia with my family & friends.
My swim coach Sam would likely describe me as strong willed and determined whilst my training swim friends would describe me as kind, funny and a great team player.
To date my successes have included being Top
10 Finalist in Australia National Championships for three years in a row (IM events) with my primary events being 400
IM , 200 IM, 400 Free, 200 back and 50
breaststroke . I have also placed top
10 in 5 K open water National Championships and have enjoyed many podium
placings in NSW Open water - Surf 2 and
5 k events.
My 2024 goal is to achieve Australian Swim 16 years qualifying times for Australian Nationals April 2024 in my five primary events and also to work hard to obtain the qualifying times for 100 and 200 breast and even 800 free if I can work hard enogh this coming Australian Summer !
As a NSW State and National swimmer I have been chosen and attended numerous NSW Swim Pathway programs and camps including 2022 NSW Sharks Squad Pathway Program , 2023, National Age area representative squad and 2023 Natioanl Regional Squad program including Association Swim camps and pathways program.
My Future goal upon graduating from High
School is to obtain study as USA college
or University athlete swimmer where I can fulfil my dream of university study
whilst belong part of a University Swim
Team.
Australians are known for being hardworking,
fun and committed & I know I will bring these attributes to any College/
University that I may have the opprtunity to swim for!
