Perseverance, hard work, and commitment characterize all that I do throughout everyday life. I have consistently taken as much pride in my academics as my athletic accomplishments. Keeping up a high GPA regardless of the degree of classes, is critical to me, especially during peak training periods. I do whatever is needed to achieve my maximum capacity as a student-athlete. Doing as such enables me to set a positive model as a teammate, and be there for my teammates when they need me most. I'm looking for a college that best fits my athletic and academic goals and one to help me reach my future goals.
I started swimming when I was 6, my mom signed me up for the local summer swim team and made me get up early every day for practice. Throughout my elementary years, I tried some other sports, but swimming just felt more natural. Over the years, I have grown to love this sport and became more competitive and joined a year-round competitive swim team. Competitive swimming has taught me many valuable skills that I will carry throughout my future, in and out of the pool. I have learned to be patient, to trust the process, because the hard work does pay off.
My sport has taught me how to be a leader, balance a busy schedule, maintain a good work ethic, and how to take responsibility in all aspects of my life. Balancing academic excellence while being involved in competitive swimming, several clubs and organizations within my school community, such as pep club, interact club, prom committee, Beta club, and Green Dot (bystander intervention program against violence) have developed my essential leadership skills. Competitive swimmers lead by the example they set in the pool and the community. Swimming is a tough sport; having a bad race does not define who you are. It's what you do next.
