My name is Myah Chase, and I am 18 years old. I've been swimming since I was 6 years old. For me, swimming has always been an escape and place of release and community. It has helped me tremendously to shape the person I am today. Throughout the years, swimming has been a major point of self development as it has shown my strengths and weaknesses and what is needed to improve. During practice and dry land, I love to push myself and other people. I will often give out pointers If I ever feel it's needed to help my team mates. I stay resilient and learn from my mistakes to the best of my ability, while also helping to keep team mates in line and focused. I take what my coaches have to say seriously, as I'm not afraid of constructive criticism. In life, I want to help everyone, including myself to become their best selves.
In 2018, I was no longer able to swim as I lived with a single mom and we suffered from financial issues. I realized over 9 months of not swimming, how incredibly important it was to me and I would do anything I could to come back to my team. I worked all summer and contacted the coaches myself to work on a plan. It took a while and a lot of hard work to get back in shape, but I eventually did and I'm so glad I took the steps of self advocacy and dedication.
