My name is Ava Thomson, and I love to swim.
I live in Winnipeg, Manitoba- Canada with my parents and brother. I am fortunate to have always had great support from my family for all that I do.
I’ve had a passion for swimming since age 5, when I joined the Manta Swim Club. I have been swimming competitively in the Elite group for 3 years; am a member of the Manitoba Provincial Swim Team; and have competed at national level swim meets. I want to continue my progress in competitive swimming at a college level.
I am an honours roll student with a 97% average, and attend École Kelvin High School. I will be starting my second year of high school (10th grade) in September 2021. Since first grade I have been enrolled in French immersion programming, and have been accepted next year into the International Baccalaureate (IB) program. I hope to pursue studies in the medical or scientific field.
I believe I understand the commitment, dedication and effort that is required to excel as a student-athlete. I have for many years had to balance academic and athletic demands. I have learned to manage my schedule and my time well, so that neither my studies nor my swimming suffers, while also ensuring I spend quality time with my family and friends.
I am open to and excited by the challenges that collegiate student-athletics could provide me.
