My name is Skye Schmit, and I am a competitive swimmer from Stillwater, Minnesota. I have been swimming with my team, St. Croix Swim Club, since I was eleven years old. I first started swimming in order to be safe by water, and continued because of my love for the sport.
I am looking for a school that challenges me both academically and athletically. I am excited to find a team that becomes my family, and a school that opens my mind and perspective on the world. School is extremely important to me, as having a 4.0 GPA shows my dedication to hard work. I am currently taking classes at Century Community College through PSEO (concurrent enrollment) and will graduate high school with an AA degree. I enjoy learning and discovering new things, and I am looking for a school that has academic rigor as well as athletic competition. In college, I intend to grow as a person, athlete, and student, and I am looking for a school that will help me do that. Driven, hardworking, and persistent, are traits that I would use to describe myself both as a person and as an athlete. A motto that I really believe in is, “Hard work beats talent when talent doesn’t work hard.” Because I started swimming several years after the majority of my teammates did, I found that consistent hard work was the only way I would improve at the rate at which I wanted.
Swimming has taught me that I can push myself to the limit, get back up after a setback, and set realistic and achievable goals. Through swimming I have learned to be tough and persistent. I am looking forward to finding a college where I can continue to develop my learning through both the sport of swimming, and my education in the classroom.
