2018 HighlightsMy name is Abbie Danko and I am a junior at The Hun School of Princeton. I have been swimming since I was 6 years old and have been on a club swim team since I was 10 years old. My college goals are to go a school that is a best fit for me and where I will be able to succeed in my athletics and academics. I have always had a strong passion for history which is why I think I would most enjoy majoring in it. My other academic interests include business and economics and I hope to be able to integrate my interest in all of these topics during my college years.
As a swimmer, my teammates rely on me to motivate them and support them. On my high school team, which is made up of mostly non-club swimmers, I am known as a teammate that is willing to help whenever I am needed. This means during practices I help with drills and turns and at meets I support and motivate my teammates by cheering them on. Although it seems like all leaders must be completely outgoing and loud, sometimes I find it best to lead by example. My experiences on my club and high school teams have shaped me into the leader I am today. I would be a valuable addition to a college team because I would be a leader and role model on the team but also would take direction and work hard. I listen to and value other people's opinions and respect my teammates and coaches. Although I always put in my work and do my best at each practice and meet, I believe that happy swimmers are fast swimmers. I enjoy having fun with my teammates and being part of a family, but when it comes time to train I can be completely focused and driven.
I am seeking a college that can challenge me both academically and athletically that also has an energetic, positive, and supportive atmosphere as I feel that environment would help me accomplish my goals. Within that type of environment, I see myself as being eager to contribute and participate in academic, athletic and community life.
