My name is Lakeli "Rachael" Lubale, and I am currently a junior in high school. I started swimming when I was 7 years old (in Uganda) and I have grown tremendously since then. I now swim for Bismarck's club team, Aquastorm, which I have been doing since 3rd grade as well as my high school team since 7th grade. I have swam varsity for my high school team since my freshman year, and continue to do so. We are 7 time state champions and I believe with a honor like that it is important we always behave with the utmost dignity and integrity. I always strive for a new goal no matter how many achievements I already have. In addition to being a successful athlete, I have maintained a 4.0 (or above) grade average throughout my high school career, and I am involved my school's orchestra program and peer to peer mentoring activities/clubs. I am a natural leader who is resilient, intelligent and not afraid of constructive criticism. My high school team has, as any team is prone to do, faced some adversity on the pool deck and within the team, but we are stronger for it. Swimming has made me not only physically stronger, but also more mentally resiliant. I have grown as a leader, learned essential time management and organizational skills and discovered the importance of being a part of something much bigger than myself. I always aim to be a role model for everyone around me, even if I am not the fastet swimmer on the team. I believe strength of character is more important than just being a talented athlete.
