As a student athlete, I’ve learned that being driven and focused are two of the main factors for achieving goals in anything. It has always been important to me to reach my goals no matter how far or hard could they be. I push myself every practice, even the days when I’m too tired, but in the back of my head I keep reminding myself that one day all my hard work will pay off.
This swim season, my main goal is to make the Eastern Canadian Championships in the 100m and 200m breaststroke. Currently, I’m not the fastest swimmer in my team, but I try not to be discouraged by it or stop me to reach my goals. I know, I’ve came a long way in the past few years by trying to find my stroke, improve my technique in the water and finding my competitive side. In addition to performing well in the water, school is equally important to me; I am planning to pursue in more depth the field of mathematics, more specifically physics, statistics or architecture.
Furthermore, swimming taught me time management. Every year, I keep learning new things and adapting to new habits, for example balancing my school work, social life while still being committed to my favorite sport.
I believe I have enough experience to say, I’ve gotten used to this lifestyle I chose to live. I learnt not to get stressed so easily, not to fall behind in school and hand in assignments on time. The possibility of continuing swimming in a College or University level will open many more windows and opportunities for me. I look forward to my future.
