I began swimming when I was two-years old, and always dreamed of becoming a competitive swimmer. When I was seven, I joined the swim team at the Salem Family YMCA, and qualified for the Pacific Northwest Championships that first year in three events. After that, I qualified every year, and then advanced to the USA Swimming Oregon State Championships every year, both short course and long course. I then joined Courtside Aquatics, where I began on the senior high team as an eighth grader, where I participated in many state championships and the Western Zone Championships. I currently swim for the Blue Dolphin Swim Team. With this team I swam at Long Course State Championships, placing in the 9th in the 200 breast and in the 100 breast. This year I will be swimming my last year on the varsity swim team at West Salem High School. My favorite events are the 100 breast, 200 breast, and the 400 IM.
Since I was in first grade, I have been in the Dual Language Program, learning almost completely in Spanish in every subject. I will receive my Dual Language diploma at graduation. I have a 3.85 GPA in honors and advanced classes. I will also receive my honors diploma.
When I am not swimming or studying, I enjoy volunteering at my church, doing such things as helping fold clothes at rummage sales, setting up equipment for events, and sorting items for disadvantaged families during the holidays. I also like to draw, watch movies with my family, and hike with my two dogs.
In addition to pushing myself to reach my swimming goals, I'll also work with my teammates and coaches of my team. I am excited for college, and how it will enhance my goals for the future!
