Hi! My name is Meghan Mattison. I go to Easton Area High School and I’ve been swimming for 9 years. Prior to swimming on my current team, Emmaus Aquatic Club, I swam for Blue Eagle Swim Team and Penn Jersey Aquatic Club. During my summers I swam for Easton Aquatic Club and Stones Crossing Swim Club. My passion for swimming began when I was 7 years old and a friend convinced me to join the swim team. From the moment I realized I enjoyed swimming, I knew I would swim in high school. Now that I am in high school, I know that I want to swim in college because I enjoy it so much. I also play the sousaphone in the Easton High School Marching Band, the flute in the Easton Area High School 10-12 Ensemble, as well as the flute in the pit orchestra. I have been an assistant teacher for my church’s CCD program for 2 years, and I deliver groceries to a soup kitchen weekly. Though these activities keep me busy they have taught me time management when balancing school, sports, and extracurricular activities.
In school, I maintain a 4.0 GPA while taking honors and AP classes. I love math and english. My goal is to attend a four year college where I can pursue my dream of becoming a civil engineer while also coaching swimming.
Swimming has positively affected my life in so many ways. It has taught me that failure is a part of life and you have to be resilient and work for what you want. Swimming has also helped me create friendships. These friendships have helped me develop personal and leadership qualities. I’ve learned that with persistent work and effort, I can accomplish any goal I set. The commitment that you need to be successful in swimming is like no other. You need to have a positive mental attitude in order to complete the tough sets and races and to get through the repetition of everyday practice. Although swimming isn’t always easy, I’ve found that I love it more and more each year.
