My name is Julia Banker. I teach swim lessons to children at the pool where I swim. I truly believe every child should experience the chance to swim as it may become a true passion of theirs. I love to see the joy light up in their faces when they succeed. Before I started swimming, I was a committed dancer for 10 years when I realized I truly loved swimming. I suffered a sport injury my sophomore year. I had hip arthroscopy surgery 10 months ago, did Physical Therapy for 5 months, and have felt amazing ever since. I have not let my surgery/injury get in the way of my determination and passion for swimming. Throughout my injury, I continued to cheer on my club and high school teammates from the sidelines, volunteered at swim events, and helped plan events for swimming. As for academics, I have always had good grades as I feel very strong about doing well in school. I have participated in 2 clubs at my high school including Medicine Club and SADD (Students Against Destructive Decisions) where I have taken the time to plan events for them. A personal goal for myself is to not get discourage when I have a bad race, but to let it drive me to finish better next time. A goal for my teammates would be to support them and be their backbone when they need it. I believe everyone deserves a teammate to lean on. I hope to get better throughout my college career and see my improvements.
