Swimming has been a major part of my life for almost as long as I can remember. Days started with early morning swims and finished with after school practices. A familiar place for me to see my friends while working on bettering myself daily. A place to lose myself in the meditative state brought on while concentrating on a long set. Dual meets highlighted by the success only felt most deeply when you are there for your team and they are there for you. Swimming has greatly influenced the person I am today. I’ve learned how hard work over a period of time ends in achieving goals that I might not have thought possible. I have a growing interest in distance events, ever since I swam the 500 for the first time at the beginning of my freshman year. I find this event, that is daunting to most others, to be my favorite and most enjoyable. I love the strategy, both before and during the longer races. I am able to negatively split the majority of my races, which gives me a competitive edge and makes for a race that my teammates always seem to remember.
Not only am I looking for a school that is a good fit for me in swimming, but most importantly, one that will continue challenging me academically. I have been a very focused student throughout all of middle school and my years in high school. I plan to continue this trend into college. I am also looking for a campus, community, and social environment that best fits me and will help me to develop to my full potential.
