As a rising junior at Williamsport Area High School, I have found a deep passion for swimming through multiple characteristics, traits, and experiences that I have developed and have had in my life. Naturally, a competitor and multi-sport athlete (soccer, swimming, track), I push boundaries and myself to be the best version that I can be. However, multiple facets go into creating a well-rounded student-athlete. While being competitive is a trait that I utilize in the pool, as a member of a team, I value lifting others up. Through consistent consideration and care for my teammates, we all can be the best athletes and swimmers possible; hence, creating an encouraging, healthy, and team-oriented environment for us to succeed.
When I was younger, I experienced an injury sled-riding that was physically traumatizing. This injury left me in the hospital for a few weeks and put me in a torso-down cast for multiple months. Even though I was young, I recognized during this time my true desire to be active and athletic. Through this experience and many others, I have developed a resilient mindset that is prepared to take on any challenge that may come my way, either in or out of the water. I count my blessings and am very thankful for the opportunities that I have had, but I am constantly creating goals, working hard towards them, achieving them, and then resetting.
Being a swimmer is only one-half of the equation to being a student-athlete. My focused, determined, and goal-oriented perspective extends itself into the classroom. As an honors and Advanced Placement student, I seek to develop in the classroom. My favorite subjects are in the health sciences and they include biotechnology, biology, and chemistry. Looking to the future, I hope to attend college and study some form of health science or nursing. My post-graduate goals are to work, gain experience, and eventually enroll in a nurse practitioner program. As somebody who innately seeks to care for others, these programs and career-tracks will allow me to fulfill this deeper desire. Ideally, I would be able to couple my academic interests and athletic intentions to create a well balanced, student-athlete equation.
Through resiliency, hard work, determination, goal-setting, and grit - I believe that I will bring value to a collegiate swim program. Not only will I continue to strive for excellence in the pool and classroom, but I will also encourage and motivate others to do the same as a team-player. A team-player not only listens and encourages other members of the team, but recognizes that it takes a village to create a well-rounded student-athlete. I have developed a deep appreciation for my coaches and trust in them to assist me in becoming the best swimmer I can be. Coaches are a vital piece to the development of a strong student-athlete and they assist in allowing the team to attain success. Being in the pool brings me moments of joy, moments of anxiousness, moments of deep appreciation, moments of admiration, and moments of dreaming of my future - through the resiliency, determination, skill, and grit and my ability to be a multi-sport student athlete in high school has me ready achieve goals as a collegiate swimmer.
