Personal Statement

My name is Annie Lea Choate, a senior at The Harpeth Hall School in Nashville, TN and a member of Nashville Aquatic Club. I am a sprinter/mid-distance Freestyle & Butterfly swimmer who developed an interest in swimming after watching my older sister’s best friend swim at a Harpeth Hall high school meet.  At that time I was six years of age and began swimming that summer with our country club’s swim team. I was hooked! My sister’s friend swam competitively for NAC as well and by 8, I wanted more than just summer swim. Winning those Heat Winner Rainbow Ribbons, and High Point made me want to compete year around, and so I began swimming with NAC in August of 2013. I not only swam, but I also played travel softball until 12 when I was moved up to the senior training group.

I am competitive in every aspect of my life, may that be in the pool or classroom. I understand the rigor of collegiate athletics and what it means to be a student-athlete, especially after having followed my sister’s journey as an undergraduate assistant with the University of Tennessee softball team from 2016 to 2019. I love the camaraderie and sense of pride that goes with wearing the uniform and colors of the school and being able to represent the institution’s mission and values  through my performance as an athlete. I have seen what it takes to reach the high level of collegiate athlete and the hard work it takes to balance school and sports. I believe I have that advantage over others who haven’t had the opportunity to see the ups and down but rewarding experience that is being a part of a collegiate athletics program up close prior to walking on campus.

I love swimming, my team, my coaches, and I love being a good teammate! I am looking forward to the opportunity to continue swimming on the collegiate level. I am excited to represent a university by wearing their colors, being a scholar athlete, and representing the team with pride!

NCSA COLLEGE RECRUITING®

NCSA College Recruiting® (NCSA) is the nation’s leading collegiate recruiting source for more than 500,000 student-athletes and 42,000 college coaches. By taking advantage of this extensive network, more than 92 percent of NCSA verified athletes play at the college level. The network is available to high school student-athletes around the country through valued relationships with the NFLPA, FBU, NFCA and SPIRE. Each year, NCSA educates over 4 million athletes and their parents about the recruiting process through resources on its website, presentations of the critically-acclaimed seminar College Recruiting Simplified, and with Athletes Wanted, the book written by NCSA founder Chris Krause.
