I have loved the water for as long as I can remember. I started swimming competitively when I was 11 years old and have learned a great deal about swimming techniques, discipline, sportsmanship, and leadership from each coach and team along the way. I’ve continually set goals and achieved them over these past 5 years. Now, my eye is on the next prize – College.
With my goals for education being just as important as my goals as an athlete, I’m looking for a school where I can pursue a degree in Business Administration and be challenged both academically and athletically. Swimming at the collegiate level will allow me the opportunity to continue on my path of personal growth and athletic achievement while contributing to the success of a team.
I made the varsity high school swim team as a freshman. That year I made finals at the regional meet in both the 200 IM and 100 FR. In addition, I qualified for the UIL 5A Texas State Championship with the A relay team in the 200 IM (anchor position) where we finished 17th. That team experience increased my determination to work harder and to achieve more. This increased determination paid off once again as I competed in the YMCA State Championship this summer, placing 1st, 2nd, or 3rd in almost all individual events and breaking 3 state records with my relay team. To many, swimming is seen as only an individual sport. But, I have really come to love the unity that develops when a team accomplishes something great together. I look forward to being part of such a team at the next level as well.
I understand time management to be a critical discipline to college success, I am thankful for the opportunities I have that are teaching me to create good habits in this area. I currently have a full schedule that includes AP classes. On top of that, I have a morning practice before school, an evening practice after school and a Saturday morning practice while competing with 3 different swim teams. I still find time to have fun with family and friends and also volunteer at my local church with kids programs and community outreach events.
