My name is Taylar Hooton. I've been swimming competitively since I was 9 years old. I love the sport and the challenges it brings. My goal after high school is to continue swimming for a University that would allow me to pursue my career goals. I would be a great asset to your team because I am a hard worker, a leader, and an encouraging teammate. I thrive on continuing to learn and grow in my sport as well as academically.
I STRONGLY believe that a swimmer's team contribution doesn't just start and end in the pool. I believe that being a good teammate, friend, and example is very important to a team environment. I strive to be a strong leader and friend to my teammates and also to fellow competitors on other teams. I firmly believe that you get back what you put out in to the world. I want to be part of a team that is fiercely competitive and strive for the best they can in the water, but out of the water are respected by others in the swim world as a team that conducts itself with respect, professionalism and good sportsmanship. I strive to help create an environment that is drama free and makes everyone feel welcome and helps one another be the best athlete, student, and individual they can be.
I have contributed to my teams, both club, and high school, by being a top points earner, competing in record-breaking relays, and helping cultivate a positive team environment. I have also been featured in our local paper as a student-athlete of the week.
For my high school 5A team as a freshman, I helped my team secure its first women's high school state championship win ever by placing third in the 100 yard backstroke (was only beaten by two senior swimmers) as well as participating in the championship finals for the 100 fly and taking first in both the 200 medley relay and 400 medley relay.
As a sophomore I took 2nd in the 100 back, narrowly missing first place. I helped my relay team secure a first place 1 with my medley relay lead off. I brought my team back from a 5th place position to first place in our 400 freestyle relay as well as placing 4th in the 100 free at the 2022 5A State, ultimately resulting in our women's team defending our first place title.
As a Junior I helped my team secure wins in the 200 and 400 freestyle relays, breaking our HS team record and narrowly missing the all state record by only .11. I posted the second fastest splits on both of these relays.
I currently hold the school record with Olympus High School in the 100 yard backstroke. I have competed and medaled in USA swimming state championships for Utah in both long course and short course events, and currently hold the Utah State Record in the 200 scy Medley Relay where I swam backstroke.
I am a multiple sectionals and Futures Qualifier.
I look forward to furthering my swimming career and finding a college that fits.
I look forward to hearing from you!
