My feisty attitude, grit, and passion have shaped me into the swimmer I am today.  This is  my fourth year of swimming at the year-round level and as I look back, I can see the tremendous amount of growth I’ve had in my technique and in the mental strength I have gained. 

One question that I often ponder is the reason I became a swimmer in the first place.  My “why.”  The answer is simple: I am in love with swimming!   Well, maybe it’s not that simple. I swim for the challenging sets, for the process and steps it takes to reach a goal, for the way it feels to be connected to a team, and for that last push in the race when  I’ve worked so hard to make the cut. This is the “why” I’ve had to remind myself constantly, especially in this past year.  Over the past year, I’ve had to deal with the struggles of anxiety, but it has only reminded me more of the lessons I can learn from it and the strength I now have. Finally, after all the mixed feelings of love and hate, I accomplished my first two senior champs cuts in the 100 and 200 breast! All of this is what makes my coach say that I am the mentally toughest person on the team. 

My goal is to bring all of the lessons swimming has taught me into both my value as a teammate on a swim team and at my future job. I want my coaches, teammates, and mentors in life to value me the same as I value and care for them. I also want to continue to learn from my past mistakes and apply the feedback to what I work on next. But most of all, I want to make a positive impact on someone’s life the same way they did mine!
