My name is Kloe Cotta and I am a senior at Los Banos High School. My best UTR WAS 5.75. I was named the 2022-2023 and 2023-2024 All Area/county Tennis Player of the year. I was also selected by the American Legion Auxiliary as the top delegate from my high school to participate at California Girls State this summer located at Sacramento State University. It has been an honor to receive these very prestigious awards. I have won the WAC MVP and the Singles Tournament Championship for the past 2 years in a row. I have a record of 25-0 this season and selected as the number 2 seed in the CIF Sac-Joaquin Section Tournament.
I have played tennis for ten years and am looking to further my experience at the collegiate level. I began playing sports when I was 3 years old as an ice skater. Starting sports at such a young age has taught me how to grow into the well rounded athlete that I am today. Competing as an ice skater under an olympic coach taught me the importance of good footwork and placement as the basis of any sport. These translated into being a junior champion at the age of six years old. At the age of seven, I was introduced to the game of tennis by my current high school tennis coach and fell in love with it.
In my 10 years of playing tennis, I have learned that the time put into the sport is crucial to the growth of the player I have become today. With a 12-1 record as a freshman, a 23-3 overall record as a sophomore and a 27-2 overall record as a junior, I have experienced the very highs of winning and the lessons learned from the losses. Coming into high school, I had a mindset of losing being the worst thing possible, but I soon learned to use my losses as a catalyst to develop a stronger mindset on the court. During my eighth grade year, I added an additional coach to further my training. Since then, my dad and I have been driving an hour and a half away to get private lessons in Clovis, California. Over the next two years, I am looking to lead or mentor my teammates as opposed to being the number one on the team. I am also starting to play UTR ranked players and tournaments to establish a solid UTR rating, which colleges will look for. Lastly, I am looking to work on periphery skills to improve my game such as, focusing on fitness, diet, and studying strategy and plans versus just reacting and hitting.
