I have grown up in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho: a town in which winter and harsh weather conditions dominate the climate 9 months out of the year and where only two indoor tennis courts exist within 30 miles of the next indoor court. To play tennis in Coeur d'Alene, I have had to make it a priority, as the weather and amount of courts within our city limits make it very hard to do so. Waking up at 5 a.m. to call and reserve a court for 5 days in advance and driving 30 miles to Spokane on a weekly basis are small sacrifices I've made for the love of the game. Throughout my last 3 years of high school, I have competed at the varsity level, occupying the #3 singles position during my freshman year, the #1 doubles position during my sophomore year, and the #1 singles position during my junior year. At the end of my sophomore season, my doubles partner and I placed 3rd in our district tournament, qualifying us for the state tournament. There, we played 4 matches, one of which we defeated the district champions in a split-set match. I plan to continue training and competing in many USTA tournaments and matches over the summer. My goals for my last high school season are to go undefeated in my league matches and to compete at the 5A state level in singles. In addition to my dream of playing college tennis, I want to pursue a degree in Spanish and study abroad in a foreign country. In whichever career path I choose to take, I want to use my Spanish-speaking skills on a daily basis.
