My goals are to obtain at least a four year degree and to be a competitive college tennis player. I feel that my athletic and academic abilities make me a strong well rounded candidate. I’m driven by accomplishment and pride. My strongest attribute is my mental toughness. More than I would like to admit, I have won many matches by coming from behind. I have an "I can do it" attitude and I don’t let distractions get in my way. I am very coachable and a hard worker.
Growing up I competed in many different sports basketball, softball, soccer, volleyball, swimming and track. It was because of track that I play tennis today. The first opportunity to try out for the track team was 6th grade. One day, after a week or so of practice, my mother asked me …. “So I haven’t heard you say much about track, how do you like it?” We still laugh today at my response. “Mom, all we do is run!” Needless to say I finished the season, because quieting wasn’t an option. I started it therefore I finish it. This experience lead me to look for an alternative spring sport. That summer, between my 6th and 7th grade year, I attended my first tennis camp and I’ve been playing ever since.
I use to think it was a disadvantage that I didn’t start playing tennis at a very young age. Now I know that's not so. I’m excited, fresh and not burnt out. I feel I will play tennis all my life. I love the game. I love to play, improve, compete and win.
I aspire to succeed on and off the court at the highest level that I’m capable. Keeping a high GPA is very important to me. I put a lot of time and effort in to getting good grades. I know that my performance in the classroom is the key to unlocking doors in my future. I enjoy the feeling I get from my academic successes a lot like the feeling after winning a tennis match. It's all about the challenge and the feeling of accomplishment.
