Personal Statement
Tennis is the one sport that can really prepare you for the real world. I’ve learnt this throughout the years as I got the opportunity to play other sports competitively such as hockey, soccer, cricket, netball, swimming and golf. None of those sports compare to tennis, yes, they teach important lessons like working in a team, trusting others and communication.
However, in my 14 years of playing tennis it has taught me so much more valuable life lessons that has strengthened my character to be the person I am today. Even though when I was younger, I tried every excuse to get out of practice when I would have much rather just play matches instead.
Tennis has taught me so many lessons that I use on and off the court. Some examples, how to be mental tougher, to be independent and to never give up as the score or any situation doesn’t define the outcome. It is a sport that will always help you improve as an individual.
I strongly believe that my competitiveness will help push me and my teammates to do better in practices as well as in matches. I strive to do well not only on the court but also in all my classes as my focus is being all rounded student athlete. From a young age I’ve had to learn how to balance school and sports, it was a struggle at the time as I only wanted to play and compete. As I grew up and started to focus more on tennis as well as my studies, I realised that even though tennis is such an important aspect of who I am it is not the only thing and I don’t want it to be, I want to be a well-rounded individual.
