Personal Statement
I have academic Honours at school I was awarded this for my grade point average through my high school career. It has been consistent with the lowest at 3.4 in Grade 8 and last year I got a 3.7. I am hoping to finish high school with between a 3.7 and a 4.0. My Final high school results will be available in mid January as the academic year in South Africa runs January to December.
I have taken two SAT tests and my SAT score is 1180 and super-scored to 1240. I wrote these before I had completed all the course work required for the tests. I am writing this again on the 5th of October this year. This is right between my preliminary exams and my final exams. So I will be well prepared for this and will increase my SAT score.
I have been awarded a Gold Presidents Award https://presidentsaward.co.za/ this is the South African equivalent of the Duke of Edinburgh award https://www.dofe.org/ It was brought to South Africa by Nelson Mandela. To be awarded the Gold certificate one needs to complete the following:
- At least 72 hours of community service
- Learn a new skill (I learned to play a musical instrument – electric guitar)
- Be involved in some form of physical recreation (I played tennis at a provincial level)
- Undertake a shared purposeful activity for 4 nights and 5 days.
- I traveled to Nepal with World challenge
- Here we worked at a school
- I raised sufficient funds before leaving South Africa to pay for a large part of their water cleaning plant
- https://weareworldchallenge.com/international/destination/nepal/
- Undertake a Journey with an agreed purpose
- We hiked in the Annapurna mountains for 4 days
- This trip was approximately 80 km or 50 miles
In order to achieve Gold one must have completed the Bronze and Silver levels.
I am the Head of Service for my high school and have been awarded full-service colours for Community Service, Service to my school, and Environmental service. By achieving these three awards I have been awarded Service Honours.
I am the vice captain for the tennis team at school and played in all the school matches and travelled in all the school tours. This was a big commitment and as the schools system is not tied to the UTR system none of those matches are included in my UTR. In my final school year I have played very few tournaments and thus my UTR hasn't done much this year. I am playing in the big South African tournaments in December and January and will be playing ITF's and South African tournaments in the new year. I expect my UTR to improve by the time I need to finalise my applications to college.
I would like to major in Computer Science,
