Personal Statement
Hi my name is of course Martine Michaela Carroll.
A bit about myself.
I love tennis!!!
I did however only start tennis when I was 10 as my whole family has always been involved in basically as many sports as possible their whole lives.
My dad played A grade rugby union for many years as well as my mum was an exception track and field athlete and also a very fine tennis player in her own right and my brother has captained Australia in indoor cricket and won a World Cup. So there has always been plenty for all of us to keep busy and entertained.
Tennis hasn't however been my only passion as I love sports in general. How so you may ask?
I played soccer from 5 years old till the u/12 state titles which our Met North won.
I have this year won the overall athletics u/15 champion athlete with 4 wins (shot put, discus, javelin and long jump.) 2 seconds and 3 thirds from the eleven events I competed in.
I enjoy competing in swimming and usually make it through to regionals although if I have to be honest the training for swimming doesn't really excite me. Much more fun to swim at the beach.
My major tennis achievements so far is to become the number 1 ranked female in Queensland for my age (2004) and very proud of the fact I am presently ranked 4th nationally. Mainly because 99 percent of the girls I am up against started when they where 3, 4 or 5 years of age and I have been playing for less than 5 years.
I have won quite a few tournaments but I have been unbelievably fortunate to win the National U/14 girls doubles title earlier this year which was so exciting and then to have been a part of The Kelvin Grove College girls team that won the National schools championship last year and went on to finish 5th in the world schools championship in Italy earlier this year as well. It was an absolutely incredible experience and a memory I will adore.
So yes I love my sport but tennis may or may not be a pathway, my main goal is to attend college and come away with a degree and whatever happens with tennis happens. I love architecture and design and that is where I would love to focus my study.
So far my academic results have been very good with me being in the top 20% nationally of English and in the top 5% nationally for maths according to the Australian national NAPLAN results. It is most certainly my goal to at the very least maintain these levels going through to grade 12.
I know I am only in grade 9 at the moment but many many people have said it is a really good idea to get a game plan so this is me hoping that you will take the time to consider a longer term goal setter, someone who never settles for average or mediocre and will give their heart and soul in the pursuit of excellence, and keep an eye out for me over the next few years.
All the best
Martine Michaela Carroll
