Personal Statement
I love tennis and have been competing in tournaments ever since I moved to Singapore at the age of eight. I am looking for opportunities to play singles or doubles for a college team with a strong sense of community and school spirit.
Versatility on the court — I like to change the pace of the ball by occasionally chipping or coming to the net. I train on clay, grass, and hard courts and can alter my performance depending on the surface.
Positive mindset and attitude — At my school, our athletes embody “The Eagle Way” – we are competitive and strive for exemplary sportsmanship. I give my best to every single match, make fair calls, and encourage my team and myself with positive at-cause talks.
HS Coach Comments:
Ally is consistently mentally tough and changes strategy in tough matches. I’ve seen many girls over the years “get tight” in tough situations, or worse, continue with a losing strategy out of fear, but Ally’s reaction to adversity is quite the contrary. She is proactive in examining the problem, deciding on a different strategy, and committing. I’ve come to expect coolheaded reactions from Ally, not just on the court but in training as well.
Tennis is not only a sport in which I can be competitive in, it also allows me to use my skills to help others. Every week I teach and train the visually impaired to play tennis through the Singapore Association of the Visually Handicapped. It is my passion to help them overcome barriers and improve their physical fitness and their game. We are working towards sending a team to the International Blind Tennis Tournament in the near future.
