Personal Statement
I love being part of a team. Winning - and learning - together really gets me fired up, and my goal through college is to get into a good school and contribute both on and off the court.
I joined the United World College of South East Asia under-19 girls’ tennis team just after turning 14 in 2019. I was the youngest to do so. Then COVID hit. And because there are little or no UTR matches here in Singapore, it has been a stop-start-stop few years, and before I knew it, two years have passed. Those were meant to be my travelling years to improve my UTR and get better.
I believe my communication skills make it easy for me to understand and work well with others. Throughout my schooling I've found that problem solving and adapting to different situations is very important. Constant improvement, however small, is essential to achieving my goals of attending college and continuing my education in the hope of pursuing a psychology degree.
For tennis, I have travelled to Australia, Malaysia, India, Vietnam and Nepal to compete. I was also part of the college exposure camp here in Singapore with Rice University, Cornell and Boston University In 2019 and I am happy to share what those coaches said about me then. These experiences have taught me that while it is important to do well, it is important to look out for your teammates.
I intend to sit my for SATs later this year (2022) when I start Grade 11. For the summer of 2022, I will be spending some time at the Gomez Tennis Academy in Naples, FL after summer school at Boston University. My converted GPA sits at around 3.55, and I would describe myself as conscientious, caring and keen to improve.
