Personal Statement
I am a dedicated, self-driven and self- disciplined person who readily sets goals for myself and works diligently to reach them. I am a natural leader and an honest, optimistic person who is ready to grasp every opportunity that College Tennis has to offer. I have received two school awards one from primary school and the other, high school, for taking full advantage of the opportunities that the school had to offer.
I have been playing tennis for 12 years and started on the tennis circuit at the age of 16. I started at about 800 in South Africa and after about a year and a half of tournaments I was position number 22 in Girls singles, 26 in Women’s singles and 52 in Women’s doubles. I was a player for the U18 Western Province team which won the South African National Team Championships, in which I played singles and doubles.
I played my first ITF tournaments at the age of 17, since then I have played about 10 to 12 ITF’s of which I have qualified for more than half and won about 4 main draw matches and won my second round of doubles, this positioned me at 1765 on the international circuit.
I would like to make a difference to the college tennis team, not only on court but with my positive, uplifting, driven personality. Overall, I hope to be an important asset to a strong tennis team and achieve good academic results, after which I feel equipped and ready to go out into the world with confidence.
