Personal Statement
It is a big dream of mine to continue to play tennis as competitively as possible throughout my life and I’m so excited to potentially move forward and play at a US college level. I love tennis! I’ve been playing since I was 4 years old and then started competing and really getting into it when I was 11. Despite starting quite late, I began winning multiple tournaments from age 12 and started to climb the rankings. Currently, I am ranked in the top 240 under 18 girls in the UK, as well as top 380 women in the UK. This is where and when I found my desire to compete and I always put in tons of effort in training, tournaments and even doing those little extras at home. I have loved the game ever since I started playing, and that’s something I never want to lose and I think college will help with this. Growing up, I was taught well about good sportsmanship and tennis etiquette and I’d like to think people notice that when they watch my matches. One of my greatest qualities however is my mental toughness. I love digging deep and fighting to win matches. I will never give up, even if they are tough. I’m currently studying psychology, as well as sports psychology in PE and I personally think this really helps in my tennis tournaments. It hasn’t always been smooth sailing though as I have fought with my type 1 diabetes, which I work extremely hard to manage through training and matches, but I have dealt with it all the time and have learnt the ins and outs of it with tennis. Overall, I hope college will keep me competing so I can see how my tennis career develops and keep loving the game.
