My name is Maya Lee and I am a Junior at Free State High School in Lawrence, Kansas. I have only been playing competitively for the past four years and my current Universal Tennis Rating is 5.6. I regularly play USTA tournaments and have played on the varsity team at my high school for the past 3 years. My sophomore year my doubles partner and I placed 5th at the Kansas 6A State tournament and received All State Honors. Last year I finished 7th in singles at State. I feel one of my greatest strengths as a player is my athleticism. I am primarily a counter-puncher and growing to become more versatile as a player. I feel like my mental game is one of my strengths; I try to focus on competing and enjoying the competition.
In addition to working extremely hard on my tennis game, I work even harder on my studies. Throughout my high school career I have chosen to take all advanced courses and have recently been elected as an officer for my school’s National Honor Society. I am an editor in my high school journalism program and I’ve maintained a 3.96 G.P.A. while practicing 20 hours a week and working two part time jobs, one at a nearby tennis facility and the other as a hostess at Old Chicago. I’m still considering my major, but am interested in psychology, international relations, and political science.
