My aspirations out of high school are to add to a competitive tennis team and further my career as a player. As for my academics, I would like to further my studies to prepare me for my future in the medical profession.
Unlike other players, I have never just played tennis. Tennis has always been my favorite sport but I have also played travel softball along with tennis. This has helped me in the team aspect of tennis and helped me when I play doubles. Softball has also helped me with my net game and to not be afraid of the ball because I am a catcher in softball and the ball coming at you is the whole part of being a catcher. Playing softball has taught me that letting your game do the talking will make people respect you.
Playing high school tennis has been a highlight of my tennis career. But being a girl on the boys' tennis team has been very fun and has been a learning experience. Let alone being a girl playing all these guys that are bigger and taller than me. I had to learn how to get along with my brother and be a good doubles partner and not just a sibling. My brother and I have always gotten along pretty well but we have always been competitive in tennis because we grew up having that brother-sister rivalry. Over the two seasons we were on the team together we were partners. I really had to learn how to put the brother-sister rivalry aside and play as a team and win together instead of just get the win for yourself. This has made me a stronger tennis player and person throughout the past two seasons because of the challenges I had to overcome.
This past year, my junior year I overcame a lot by not being partners with my brother anymore because he graduated and having to get to know another player and their style of play. I started out the season with a different partner I ended the season with and that was one of the best decisions that were made, at the time I wasn't happy because I was moved from one doubles to two doubles but I overcame that because I realized that it really strengthened the team. My partner this year was super understanding with all the stuff I put him through at the end of the season. Going into states this year I had high expectations until the weekend before the state tournament I got into a car accident and came out with a very bad concussion. At the beginning of that week there were questions of if I should even play, but the day before we left to go to Midland I was cleared to play over the weekend. I believe that my partner and I did the best that we could with the circumstances that I was in while playing, I had a tough time in parts of matches pushing through because my head hurt so bad but I did it. With the perseverance I had and being with my partner I had we did the best that we could and still made it to the semifinals and lost a well-fought match to Detroit Country Day.
In academics, I also have the will to never give up until I get the grade that I want. My goal-driven mindset has helped me out in school and on the tennis court. I have a 4.0 GPA, I enjoy science and English language arts, in college, I plan to further my education in the medical field.
I hope to soon get to know about your program, as I look for a place where I can be an asset to your tennis program. While I take part in your high-level academic program.
