If I were to describe something that has helped me become a better person and grow in multiple ways, it would be tennis. Ever since I officially started taking lessons around 8 years old, I knew that tennis was the sport for me. There’s just something about hitting that makes me go into a state of happiness that is indescribable.
One of my favorite experiences with tennis was being able to be a part of my high school’s tennis team. This past season, Fall of 2013, as highlighted by:
Team Awards
• Our team finished the season off being undefeated with a perfect record of 17 wins.
• Our team won the PIAA District III AA Team Tennis Championship (the first time in the school’s history)!!
Individual Awards
• I was given the opportunity (by my coaches) to play in the Singles Flight 1 AA Lancaster-Lebanon League Tennis Tournament. I was unseeded and won against the 2nd and 3rd seeded girls and earned a spot in the Singles Final, which was actually against my own teammate, and I was runner up.
• I had the same opportunity to play in the Doubles Flight 1 AA Lancaster-Lebanon League, and after we won against the 2nd seeded girls, we played in the Doubles Final, which again was against our own teammates, and we were also runner up.
• I was the “lone star victory” against Manheim Township in the Lancaster-Lebanon Girls Team Tennis Final.
• I was honored to be awarded the “Player of the Year 2013” of our school’s tennis team.
• I did not lose a single single’s match.
I have realized, especially this past tennis season, a benefit of playing tennis is that I am more focused in my classes, and my grades have shown too. My GPA for my junior year was a 3.5, and am hoping to keep it that way, but am striving for a higher GPA my senior year. All of my teachers describe me as a hard worker who really enjoys leaning. I have a devotion and dedication to excelling in my academics, and to the sport I love.
Over the years, and due to certain circumstances, I have developed a mental and physical toughness, confidence, and a more enthusiastic personality. All of these qualities I feel shine through me today, and if you would meet me, I believe you would agree.
