Tennis has been my sport since I was eight years old. It was a challenge getting me to find a sport that I truly had a passion for. The first time I stepped on the court and went to continuous private lessons and clinics, I knew this was the best sport for me. Tennis has taught me persistence, determination, and discipline. These are skills that I keep on and off the court. I‘m using these attributes to help challenge myself to play college tennis.
I am a defensive player with long points. However, I‘m not afraid to go for shots when I know it’s the right moment. This can leave me being aggressive on the court, as well. I have a steady forehand and a powerful backhand. Along with that, I am a team player. Although tennis is more individual, people are still surrounded by teammates while training. Starting as a Freshman on the varsity team and continuing to play all 3 years of high school, has taught me that. I still have 1 more year to go, as I am a Junior. I love cheering and showing my support for teammates during a match. I try my best to set a positive example because that is what I would want in return. From what I’ve seen by watching college sports, they show more effort and are very supportive, whereas high school teams can be different. My personality on the court is very open and positive, I’m very coachable and always willing to learn. I know criticism is what helps me grow to be a better player. My positive attitude and discipline on the court has left me cheerful and organized off the court as well. These are important traits that I hope to carry forever.
While being a student athlete, I did grow up in a strict household with normalized views to prioritize my grades before any sport. Although I still pursue tennis, I know I have to manage my gpa in order to keep this privilege. This allows me to work hard while I play my sport and study. I‘ve been able to maintain a 3.7+ GPA all throughout high school. I‘m involved in multiple clubs as well as starting my own political review club. I’m also an active member of DECA and joined when I was a sophomore. This is a business club that teaches leadership skills and allows students to compete professionally. DECA has more than 177,000 members in all 50 U.S. states. I also show my love for the community and elderly. Every week I go to an assisted living nearby and play piano for everyone there, this is just one thing that I do to share what I know with others and share my talent. In college I hope to continue working hard with academics, tennis, and in the community. I hope to find a college that suits me, allows me to continue my business, care for the community, and athletic interest. Overall, I want to make my parents, teammates, coaches, and mainly myself proud by attending the college that’s best for me. With all of this said, I hope the traits I possess are able to set me apart from others and allow me to be an amazing recruit. I want to be able to reach my goal to play tennis at the college level and I have and still am putting in effort in order to accomplish this.
