2022 Highlights
2022 Spotlight
My name is Angelyn Stanley, I am a grade 11 student at Ecole Notre Dame High School in Bonnyville, Alberta. Throughout my whole life, sports have always been a huge passion of mine; playing basketball, handball, volleyball and badminton. However track and field just seemed to be what my heart desired the most.
When I was in grade 3, I would watch the older kids race at district meets on the track connected to my elementary school; I was absolutely fascinated by all the amazing athletes; hoping that one day, that will be me. I was the fastest in my class doing little sprint races, which fed my body the most exhilarating feeling; knowing in my heart that I would want to be a track athlete when I was older.
Once I reached grade 5, I started to dominate in all my events (100m, 200m, 400m, Triple Jump, Long Jump, 4 x 100m relay), winning Ward and District Championship medals every single year from then on. At the beginning of grade 8 after reflecting on all this success, it made me realize that I have the potential to markedly accelerate in the track and field sport. That year, I decided to start putting true focus and determination towards being successful in this sport. My passion grew more and more for track and field when I joined our local track club Lakeland Yellow Jackets.
Being a very coachable athlete, my Coach and Teammate experiences have brought great success to my track and field passion, helping me push myself further everyday in something I love. Seeing myself shave off time and add distance from personal bests created a whole new mindset for myself, even further desiring to find myself competing at the collegiate level.
The whole pandemic starting in 2020, may have hindered my ability to train continuously, however, I used this time to pursue personal growth and pushed myself to be better in my sport. In the midst of the pandemic, facilities were closed and meets were postponed, which limited me to extensive training. Now, with our country opening up and life resuming, my drive and determination that was all heightened during isolation, will continue to push me even more to get back where I was and superior from that, pursuing everything I got. With my hard work ethic and determination, I know that I will keep hitting personal bests and accomplishing my dreams and goals that I have set out for myself. My passion influences me to strive for a successful academic and athletic career doing what I love.
Thank you for your time
Sincerely, Angelyn Stanley
