My name is Berlin La Munyon. I am currently a senior at Etiwanda High School. I have been running track since the third grade and cross country since eighth grade. My elementary school had a walking program where you would get a popsicle stick for every lap walked. I would regularly run four to five laps which is equivalent to a mile. My parents noticed this and signed me up for youth track and field. Throughout my running career, I have learned that I run better with a team. I thrive off of having good relationships with my teammates. When I was fourteen, I was diagnosed with Severs Disease which affected the growth plate in my heel. After seeing a specialist and completing a prescribed rehabilitation assignment, I would consider myself to be stronger. I plan on majoring in mathematics and becoming a math teacher. I am a team player and team builder. I am a good rule follower and listener. As a freshman on the varsity cross country team, I was nervous and apprehensive about competing with girls much older than myself. I appreciated how the older girls took me under their wing and encouraged me to do better. Because of the time the upperclassmen devoted to me, I began to take on a leadership role from that point on.
