Samantha Walling '10 Recruiting Profile

My name is Samantha Walling, and I am a senior at Galt High School. I am 17 years old, 5'3'' and 100lbs. I have been in cross country for 4 years, and I am about to begin my 4th year in track. I have been on Varsity since I was a freshman. My junior year, I qualified for the state championships in cross country. My personal record on a 5k is 19:14. Also, my junior year in track, I qualified for Masters and the Golden West Invitational, both in the 800 meter race. My personal record in the 800m is 2:20.06. As a senior, I am a captain on the cross country team. I am 100% sure that I am going to continue running in college. I love to run. I train all year long, with an exception of taking a couple weeks off between the XC and track seasons because my coach tells me to do so. I want to attend a college with a variety of talented runners. I want some girls that are much faster than me, so that I can always have great competition. I also want girls that are around my speed, so that I will have girls to run with. I refuse to ever be the slowest girl on my team, so if I go to a college where all the girls are faster than me, you can count on my times improving drastically by the next race. I am open-minded to the different types and locations of colleges or Universities. Although it would be nice to stay in California, I am still open to other states. I still want to receive a great education. I have been able to keep my GPA high while doing sports, and I will continue to do so. I have not yet decided on a major; however, I am interested in the health fields, as well as economics. As a runner, my goal is to go as far as I can. I would love to set records at the college I end up attending. Once I achieve one goal, I never stop there. I set myself an even higher goal immediately.
