My name is Kimberly (Kimi) Markley and I am 5’4 and 115 lbs. I live in California and I presently attend Mira Costa High School. At Mira Costa, I am known for competing in the 100m, 200m, 4x1m, and long jump.
However in my freshman year, before I even joined Track and Field, I was on the Mira Costa Girl’s Basketball team. In ninth grade, I played as point and shooting guard. My team competed in a Lady Gauchos frosh/soph tournament where I received the “All Tournament Player Award”. Not long after, I was chosen as a Team Captain. As a Team Captain, I gained the confidence to learn more and connect with my team mates and it taught me how to open up and offer help and assistance to my team members so that they could see improvement with their own personal abilities. At the end of the season, I was honored to have my team mates choose me to receive the “Golden Horseshoe Award”. The “Golden Horseshoe Award” was awarded to whoever the team thought was a team player, most valuable player, and helpful mentor and friend both on and off the court. In addition to this, I also obtained the “Scholar Athlete Award” for maintaining a GPA of 3.0.
Sophomore year, I was moved up to Junior Varsity in Girl’s Basketball. In the middle of my sophomore year, I was encouraged to join Track. Joining Track was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. I love to push my limits in order to see how much I can bring myself to accomplish. Before my very first race, I strained my Quad; but yet, I did not let the injury discourage me. I came back stronger than ever and ran the 100m, 200m, and the 4x1m (as the third leg). At Bay League Champions, I won first place in both the 100 and 200 meter dash with the times of 13:09 and 27:01. I then was named MVP for the girl’s frosh/soph team.
As a Junior I chose to put all of my focus into my Track and Field Varsity Season. I added long jump to my events and jumped my personal record of 16' 7.00 at Mustang Relays. With the advantage of my starts, I was picked to run the first leg in the 4x1m, and with my team, we beat our school’s old record with our time of 49:00. At Bay League Prelims I qualified with my time and current personal record of 26.45. At the CIF-SS Division 2 Prelims, I broke my old record by 0.29 seconds to achieve my current personal record of 12.53. I again received the “Scholar Athlete Award” by maintaining my 3.0 GPA, and in addition, I earned my Varsity Letter and was once again named MVP but for the Girl’s varsity team.
Currently, I am working to bring my GPA up above a 3.0. As for my workouts, I have started to include isometrics to my conditioning and weight training. I have big goals this upcoming Track Season and I will not settle until I accomplish them.
