My name is Aoife Noirin Hannah Hernon,
I was born in a small town on the Southwest coast of Ireland, and attended a nearby primary school until the age of eleven when my family immigrated to bustling Silicon Valley. I have always loved running, whether that be racing my older brother in a field, or representing my school or club on a proper track, it didn't matter as long as I was sprinting.
Having a strong community is very important to me so when I first began track I had my doubts about whether this 'individual' sport could come together as a team. This has been proven wrong many a time for me whether that is making up cheers and chants for others' events with my friends, or coming together as a team on the 4x400 relay. I have realized that you rely on your teammates to support you and celebrate your accomplishments, as well as push you to do your best every day.
I believe that nothing comes without constant work, effort, and determination, which I have found has payed off time and time again when I see the clear fruits of my labor in every new PR. I apply this ideal to all of my passions- Art and Design, Theatre, and the Humanities subjects- and I have been able to open up many opportunities for myself by doing this.
Receiving an education comes above all else for me, and therefore academic rigor is a priority when choosing a college, however being able to incorporate my love for track would mean the world and I look forward to the opportunities and adventures that may present themselves in the future.
