My name is Cymone Winters. I am a resident of Oakland, California. I attend Skyline High School within the Oakland School District. I am the oldest of 4 children and I live with both parents. My mother has obtained a college degree and received a high school education. My father has received a high school education. Both parents have strongly emphasized that going to college is important to do in the future. My family and peers say I am positive to be around. I am focused, very persistent, and outgoing. I love challenges whether it be mental or physical.
Academically I am currently enrolled in advanced classes. I am taking a compression math course of Advanced Algebra and Pre-Calculus, AP World History, Honors English, Spanish 3 and Intermediate Dance. I love learning so I have pushed myself to go above and beyond with my education since it’s available to me. I’m striving to further my Spanish and hopefully become fluent. I would love to have the opportunity to attend college so I can study education and kinesiology, in hopes of being a counselor or assist in physical therapy and of course run track at a collegiate level.
I have always been told I was athletic , ever since I was little I have always found a way to be up and active. I have been playing sports since I was five years old I started out with soccer and still continue to do so. I played tennis for two years and I have been dancing for 4 years now and still continue to dance. I did not feel passionate about these sports as I do with track. I began running track my 9th grade year after I had recovered from being injured during soccer season. During my freshman year I was placed on the Varsity squad and ran the 4x100m, 100m, 200m, 400m and 4x400m. I received medals in both relays and in my 200m which I surprised myself and teammates. I did not realize how much I enjoyed track until I ran my first track meet. I enjoyed running track more than playing soccer or dancing, I knew this is what I enjoyed doing and would love to go to the collegiate level for. Track and Field has not only ignited a spark within me but it has become an outlet to physically push myself and never settle for less than what is physically possible.
