First of all, I would like to say I have a passion for Track and Field, high jump specifically. My goal is to do track in college and in doing so, reach my fullest potential, and I am an extremely dedicated, determined, and driven athlete. In fact, last year I recieved a character award in my high school season given out to one female and one male called the "3-D Award" that says that I am all those things, dedicated, determined, and driven. I am constantly asking coaches questions about what I can improve on and what I can work on at home to improve, and while at practice I give it my all, devoting 98% of my attention to my sport (the other 2% is for teambuilding, becuase that is important). Since I started track in eighth grade, I knew it was the sport for me; it is not only athletically a fit, but also mentally. My positive attitude and encouragement fits track so well and honestly is the reason I am where I am today in the sport. I may be athletic and have good body control, but in track, that can only help so much: the rest is mental. Although track may be viewed as an "individual" sport, I disagree. It is a team sport where encouragement and camraderie are essential. In high school track, I use my enthusiasm and optimism to encourage others and help them succeed, and have found a role as a natural leader. There is so much I can give to my teammates while also focusing on my event and improving myself. For example, when my high jump teammate and I went to conference, I encouraged her and coached her a bit, telling her all the things she's doing well and assuring her she could get the height (because she could), but once she missed a height, and I was still in, I knew all I could do was comfort her and focus on my performance. I think that this mix of encouraging others and focusing on myself is the reason I placed first at the conference meet and is a central part of my character as an athlete. I have placed at state both years of high school track: freshman year I placed 8th and sophomore year I placed 6th. I hope to keep improving in the seasons to come. In conclusion, I am not only athletically a good fit for college track, but I will also be a great addition to the team because of my dedication, positivity, leadership skills, encouraging attitude and focus.
As for college, I am interested in majoring in Biology or Environmental Studies or hopefully creating a mix of the two to go into conservation biology, and I am open to any size college. I am a good student and I hope to be academically challenged in college and be given a place to explore my passions in academics and athletics. My ideal geographic regions for college are the West, the East, the Midwest, and, of course, my home state: Colorado.
