Julia Svartstrom '21 Recruiting Profile

I am a senior at Viera High school in Florida.  I moved to Florida last summer and previously ran at Fountain Valley High School in California.  I was a scoring runner on both Fountain Valley's Varsity California State cross country team my Sophomore year and on Viera's Varsity Florida State cross country team my Junior year.  I aspire to be a NICU nurse after college. I am very interested in biology and medical sciences.

As a runner, I want to run in college and improve my times each year. When people ask me why I run, I answer with “I run because I can run.” I was given a special talent that not a lot of people have and I want to make the most of it. Along with being able to run, I also I love the community of the sport; the people, coaches, and especially my teammates. Running creates a special type of bond that no other sport can compare. My teammates have become a second family to me. This sport is physically and mentally challenging but I love the sense of responsibility, confidence, and mental toughness that comes along with it over time.
