While growing up I was always outgoing. There was never a time when I wasn't doing everything I could to make myself stronger or more capable of better things. I started competitive gymnastics when I was two years old, and was a Pennsylvania state champion in 2011. Gabby Douglas says "Hard days are the best days, because that's when champions are made". To me, this quote means everything, because as a Track and Field runner, sometimes everyday can feel like a hard day. I am my own motivation, and with faith and confidence, I know I will become whoever I want to be in life, in everything I do. In college I want to be someone others can look at and admire for my strength and humble character. There will never be a time in my life when I won't be my biggest supporter, because to me, mentality can make or break a person. I want mine to not only make me, but push me to grow into someone I am proud of consistently.
In college I will be prepared athletically and academically. Student athletes have a lot of pressure, and it is a lot of hard work and dedication. If there is one thing I know, Track and Field has prepared me for pushing and motivating myself to be consistent with my work ethic. This includes training, studying and pursuing other interests. I plan to major in Communications to become a sports broadcaster, or to go into sports public relations. Nothing will get in the way of making sure my academics are where I need them and want them to be.
As an athlete, I train 6 days a week all year round in order to build up my endurance and strength for meets. I have weight lifting every other day. When Track and Field season comes around, I like to be fully prepared, so this gives me time to work on the technical aspects of my running, such as form and body mechanics.
I've had a lot of wins and a lot of losses, but one thing that has kept me going is the feeling I get when I win a race, or beat my sprint and long jump PRs, or even trying new events I didn't realize I was good at. There is always room for improvement, and in college I want to improve everyday and make the most out of my training, to get the best results possible for not only me but the team. Some people say Track and Field is a personal sport, but to me team is everything. I always try to create uplifting and positive training environments, and my teammates seem to enjoy practice more when we know the reasons why we are doing what we are doing. That is very important to me, because I am a mentally strong person, and I like to make sure the team is healthy and happy, and that I am a teammate they feel they can count on to do my part and support everyone.
Thank you.
